Exciting changes are taking root in New Mexico’s business landscape. With the recent launch of the NMexus Center, a groundbreaking business accelerator and commercialization hub, the state is positioning itself as the next destination for foreign investment and international innovation.

New Mexico steps onto the global stage

Announced by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham at the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Maryland, the NMexus Center is more than just a business incubator. Situated in Albuquerque’s Mesa del Sol innovation district, this first-of-its-kind accelerator gives international companies—from India, Oman, and beyond—the resources and support needed to expand into the U.S. market through New Mexico. The message is clear and bold: New Mexico is open for global business.

What is the NMexus Center

The NMexus Center aims to serve as a launchpad for international firms looking to scale in North America. The center offers tools, knowledge, and vital industry networks to help foreign businesses set up shop, grow, and succeed. For the inaugural year, companies such as Zonap Engineering India, Alligator Automations, DCirrus, Inc., Supreme Technology, American Grain Corporation, Oliver Merino LLC, and Ardic are already onboard as part of the first cohort.

Projected impact for jobs and the economy

Besides being a beacon for global entrepreneurs, the NMexus Center is expected to deliver substantial economic benefits locally:

  • Capacity for up to 40 companies each year
  • Nearly 100 new jobs created in the first year
  • Up to 1,500 jobs within five years
  • A projected economic impact exceeding $400 million over five years

These numbers highlight the power of targeted foreign investment in fueling New Mexico’s economic growth.

Building global connections

What sets the NMexus Center apart is its foundation of international partnerships. The project launches alongside historic collaborations with organizations such as:

  • IIT Kanpur
  • Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (India)
  • Oman Business Network
  • Traders Advocacy Group of Ghana

These relationships promise to drive joint R&D between New Mexico and international universities, address cybersecurity for critical infrastructure, and promote green, sustainable energy technologies as part of a global energy transition. They also enable foreign companies to resolve supply chain challenges by establishing operations closer to U.S. customers.

Why New Mexico

Why have these innovators chosen New Mexico? Amar Vakil, Executive Director of NMexus, explains:

“We chose to invest in New Mexico, specifically in the Mesa del Sol innovation district of Albuquerque, because of its unmatched combination of affordability, connectivity, and access to a thriving ecosystem of research institutions, national laboratories, and a highly skilled workforce.”

This state is not waiting for opportunities to appear. As Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller put it, “We’re not waiting for opportunity—we’re creating it.”

A welcoming ecosystem for new business

The NMexus Center is backed by a supportive ecosystem including the New Mexico Partnership, local leaders, and a wide network of researchers and industry partners. The recent summit announcement will soon be followed by delegations from India and Ghana, who will travel to New Mexico to celebrate the center’s opening and take part in specialized tours of the state’s business environment.

Looking ahead

With India now the fifteenth country to invest in New Mexico, and foreign investment in the state surpassing $2.5 billion under Governor Lujan Grisham’s administration, the NMexus Center stands as a new gateway for global innovation and entrepreneurship in the U.S.

New Mexico is quickly turning into a competitive destination for tech, manufacturing, and energy companies from around the globe. For businesses seeking to break into the North American market, the Land of Enchantment is lighting the way.
