If you need to reduce your workforce, make sure you have the facts to share with your employees about unemployment benefits.
Unemployment Benefits
Both the State of New Mexico and the federal government have adjusted unemployment benefits. Here is what employees can expect and where to find more information.
New Mexico Unemployment
The State of New Mexico has eased unemployment requirements to help those workers affected by the coronavirus. The changes now offer eligibility to those workers who have been laid off, who have experienced a reduction of hours or who must stay home to care for a sick family member with the virus. Additionally, the requirement to look for new work during this time has been waived but weekly certifications will still be required.
Claims and weekly certifications can be filed online (24/7) at www.jobs.state.nm.us or by phone (877-664-6984). The UI Operation Center will be open from 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
Employers concerned about their Unemployment Insurance tax rate increases can rest assured. Claims that are related to the COVID-19 outbreak will not count toward the employer’s tax rate.
